A Minneasota Potter, Trained in Japan

My name is Daniel Soderstrom. I am a native Minnesota potter. In addition to graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Art, focused on ceramics, I lived in Japan where I had the honor of studying under master potter Takahashi Kazuki.

The most prominent aspect of my aesthetic derives from the Japanese emphasis on simplicity, naturalism, and the beauty of imperfection.  My work celebrates the quirks and anomalies arising from the process of creation, which add uniqueness and beauty to the pottery I create.

It is my intention that the work I create will bring joy through pleasurable visual and tactile experiences. It is also my sincere hope that my work will in some way communicate unseen truths, timeless and universal.
